I am a Unisa graduate with a B.Sc. (Mathematics and Physics) degree and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Senior Phase and Further Education and Training. Both my qualifications were funded through the Osizweni Teacher Development Bursary.

I am grateful to Osizweni and its entire staff for the impact they have in the society. Having been lectured and mentored by the highly qualified members of the Osizweni staff, I witnessed the tremendous impact that the Osizweni Centre generates throughout the Gert Sibande District. The skills that I have learnt from the Centre play a huge part in my life.

It gives me the utmost pleasure to express my deepest gratitude to the Osizweni Science Centre for their continued support. I sincerely hope that more and more people can benefit from such an opportunity.

I will now use the skills and knowledge acquired to plough back into the community where I grew up and will forever be grateful and indebted to Osizweni for the love and support shown during the years of my studies.

One of the objectives of the Osizweni Teacher Development strategy is to address the acute shortage of skilled and adequately qualified Mathematics and Physical Science teachers in our defined area of operation.

I joined osizweni in the year 2018 as a BSc student fellow with Unisa under the Osizweni STEM Teacher Development Programme. Over and above the support, I have enjoyed from the well academically established Osizweni Staff and I have for my duration of my stay being exposed to the world of work in different school environments.

In the year 2018 I enrolled for BSC degree in Mathematics and Chemistry and successfully completed in the year 2021. I am currently in my final stage of my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) professional qualification.

My personal goal and vision is to positively impact on members of the society that raised me. It is through this qualification that I can illuminate others to continue the Osizweni Legacy.

Without the support from the Osizweni Science Centre, I would not have been able to achieve my dreams and thankful for the support shown over the years.

"I am a third year Bachelor of Education intermediate and senior phase student. I am currently studying at Unisa Through the assistance of an Osizweni bursary. I am currently employed at Kallie de Haas primary school in Standerton where I teach both Natural Science and Technology and Computers.

I have also taught life skills in the past and I am proud to say that my learners achieve excellent results and enjoy the classes that I teach.

The Osizweni bursary has changed my life, it has provided me with a platform to share my own skills and knowledge with young minds. Because of Osizweni I get the chance to inspire and help children achieve their own dreams and goals in life.

Being a teacher has been a lifelong dream for me. I cannot think of any better way in which to inspire and change people’s lives. South Africa is in need of truly committed teachers who can touch the hearts and lives of young learners. I firmly believe that teaching is not just a career but a calling. Our youth needs to know that somebody believes in them and wants to help them to be more than the sum of their circumstances.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Osizweni, without their help I would not have been able to achieve my dreams, I would also like to thank them for supporting me and believing in me."

"I am a UNISA student in my fourth year, studying towards a Bachelor of Education through the assistance of an Osizweni bursary.

The bursary has had a great impact on my life in such a way that I have become more dedicated than ever before to teaching. It has enabled me to commit to my studies without additional worries. The opportunity to study has changed my life and I feel positive about being the nest best teacher.

Teaching has always been my passion, as it reveals my inner desire to help, advise and groom others, more importantly to impart my knowledge and skills.

I would like to bestow my sincerest gratitude to the Osizweni Science Centre for sponsoring my study fees since 2015. May they continue to invest in teachers to better our country’s education level."

“Most of our Day Care Centres do not have enough learning resources, so the provision of resources by the Toy Library has improved our teaching and learning skills. A variety of learner resources provided by the Toy Library makes it fun and interesting for the children to learn while they play. They each get an opportunity to develop holistically and intellectually and can start school with pride and a good self-esteem.

Workshops provided for practitioners allows us to present and teach our activities with pride and enthusiasm.

Thank you to the Osizweni Toy Library team for their assistance in making it possible to work with a child of any age group. We really appreciate your service, and we plan to continue our relationship with you”.
